What Is Parquet Flooring?
If you are tired of carpet and want to change to a hardwood floor, parquet wood flooring is a beautiful alternative. It’s also extremely durable.
It takes you away from the traditional hardwood floor and gives you the opportunity to produce a work of art through geometric or angular designs.
What is a parquet wood floor? It’s basically any type of flooring with a wood block pattern. It is a collection of wood pieces, cut from solid pieces of wood into a tongue and groove pattern. These pieces of wood are then joined in a way to create a decorative effect, or left as a wood panel effect.
There are different designs and patterns you can put together to create the effect that you want. The effect comes through how the wood is cut and placed together. You can create a block look or a three dimensional design. Other designs can be connected squares, triangles, diamonds, or placed together to form whichever design takes your fancy.
Parquet floors are made of a variety of contrasting wood. The most widely used woods are oak parquet flooring, walnut, Iroko, Jatoba and maple – you can also get parquet laminate flooring.
Coating the parquet flooring with a stain to match the type of wood used will greatly enhance the colour of the wood. Top it off with a flat finish for no shine, a satin finish for minimal shine or use a glossy finish for a more noticeable and brighter shine.
