Solid Wood Flooring Finishes
The finish is the varnish-like layer that's applied to solid wood flooring. Each finish gives the solid wood floor a different appearance and provides different levels of protection for your flooring.
Satin Lacquer Solid Wood Flooring
Creating a smooth finish, satin lacquers are a popular and low maintenance option to finish a solid wood floor. All lacquered finishes are more resistant to splashes and scratches and help slow the colour-changing effects from sunlight more than oiled floors. The satin finish is slightly glossy.
Matt Lacquer Solid Wood Flooring
A matt finish gives a natural, elegant and less glossy coating to a solid wood floor. It looks more like an oil or wax finish, but is more scratch resistant. A matt lacquer finish is the most popular way to finish for solid wood flooring. Lacquer finishes slow the colour-changing effects from sunlight much more than oiled floors.
Natural Oil Solid Wood Flooring
A natural oil finish is the most traditional treatment for solid wood floors and gives a natural and classic look. Oil needs to be reapplied more often than lacquer, but luckily this is very easy to do. Generally speaking, oiled floors offer less protection against sunlight and your floor will change its colour quicker than lacquered floors.
