Solid Wood Toughness & Durability

How long does solid wood last?

Solid wood flooring has the longest lifespan of any flooring available. Its thickness means it can be sanded down and refinished lots of times meaning that, with enough care, a single solid wood floor can last for generations. That's why some of our own range of solid Nätura floors come with 60 year warranties - that's not something you see every day!

Is solid wood water resistant?

Solid wood flooring is not as resistant to spills as other floors. If puddles are left to sit, water will start to seep between the boards, which could lead to warping and discolouring. Because of this we recommend you dry up any moisture on the boards as soon as possible and avoid using in rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Is solid wood scratch resistant?

Solid wood boards are very resistant to scratches and can handle everyday wear and tear. However, dragging heavy furniture could cause scratches on your floor, but you should be able to repair these with one of our repair kits.

Which wood is the hardest?

Each species of wood has a different level of hardness. You can learn about each species in our solid wood species article, but for an exact measurement you can use the Brinell scale, which we've summarised for you below:
