Questions & Answers

Does this need a primer on the dry DPM in order for a self levelling compound to bond properly?

Asked by Kevin rowland from Soham, Ely on 02 Sep 2020

1 Answer

Hi Kevin, The Rapid DPM can go over a screed or self-leveling compound, but we would not recommend installing a self-leveling compound over the DPM as this would prevent the DPM from working.

can you lay floor tiles straight on top of the dpm

Asked by kevin redhead from Gateshead on 06 Dec 2018

1 Answer

Hi there, It does depend on which floor you are looking to lay onto the DPM. As long as the floor is flat, dry and even, it is not a problem to lay most products down, but please check first.

We have a kitchen with quarry tiles on ash / soil , could we use sikabond DPM over the tiles, they look sound - haven't moved in 150ish years ! Then insulation board/heating mat/tile on top?

Asked by Paul Bottrill from Shropshire on 27 Mar 2017

1 Answer

Hi Paul, As long as the tiles are Porous, then yes, that sounds like a good setup.

Can cement based tile adhesives and self levelling products be laid directly over Rapid DPM?

Asked by Paul Martin on 27 Feb 2017

1 Answer

Hi Paul, yes, that should be absolutely fine.

Can I put underlay and carpet directly on top of Sikabond Rapid DPM?

Asked by Paul Chapman from Norfolk on 29 Jan 2016

1 Answer

Hi Paul, As long as the DPM is dry, this is absolutely fine. Thanks

we have a 1950 property with Marley tiles over bitumen paint. If we remove tiles can sikabond rapid dpm be painted on top of old bitumen paint ( which I believe is the old damp proof )

Asked by Mandy Mooney from Ringwood on 14 Jan 2016

1 Answer

Hi Mandy, I'm afraid we'd recommend removing the old paint first! Thanks

We have had an extension done and want to lay the wooden flooring down 4 weeks before suggested that the new concrete floor will be dry I have been told about Rapid DPM and will give a water proof membrane can this be used. many thanks

Asked by melvyn attrill from chelmsford on 17 Nov 2015

1 Answer

Hi Bymelvyn, If you’re looking to glue down a solid wood or engineered floor then yes, Rapid DPM is the perfect product. However, if you’re laying an engineered floor we also have several underlays with a DPM built in, which will work perfectly.

I have a small area of floor in an old farmhouse that needs levelling - After removing a thin layer of cement laying on a few plastic bin liners that the previous owners have done I noticed there is a very small amount of moisture coming up through the old concreted floor - Its not soaking or sweating but its does feel a little damp. Can I use Rapid DPM straight on top of this floor area ( 1m sq) and then use a self levelling mix after ?

Asked by Paul Davenport from Lancashire on 11 Oct 2015

1 Answer

Yes 100% as this is exactly what this product is used for.

Hi can this be used on top of an old Victorian quarry floor and left exposed or vinyl laid directly on it?

Asked by bernard ian from uk on 28 Aug 2015

1 Answer

Good Morning This product is perfect for leveling the Victorian quarry flooring to give you the smooth flat surface for gluing down the Karndean LVT tiles.

Hi Is this product universal can it be used with a different brand of adhesive or will it only work with sikabond adhesives

Asked by Peter Kent from London on 01 Aug 2015

1 Answer

Good Morning It should work with any and all types of flooring adhesive. But you'll have to bear in mind that it hasn't been tested against all other types, so if a problem did arise you might get into a blame game with the various manufacturers you use.

Will this help seal any cracks in a concrete sub-floor before applying other coats of a liquid DPM or do I need to get floor re-concreted before applying liquid DPMs (for fear of cracks breaching the DPM)?

Asked by Steve from London on 23 Jul 2015

1 Answer

Good Afternoon Yes it can but for small cracks. If you have an underlying problem though I would suggest it would be better looking at screeding the area first as this would/should solve your issue and is far more affordable than the liquid DPM

After using Sikabond Rapid DPM can I us a self levelling compound over the top?

Asked by Craig Spencer from Okehampton on 24 Jun 2015

1 Answer

Good Morning Craig Yes you can without any problems at all.

I want to seal a new build grage floor, stop the dust flying and at a later date get a solid wood floor put down. Will a few months between the two projects have any impact on the result?

Asked by dave ritchie from st helens on 09 Jun 2015

1 Answer

Good Morning This product is perfect for what you're asking but needs to be done at the same time. Reason being when you're walking and using the floor with just the DPM (liquid plastic) you could damage the protective surface over time.

Can you do sections over different days? Or does it need to be laid in one day? Thanks

Asked by Steve Huane from London on 27 Apr 2015

1 Answer

Afternoon Steve Sections over different days isn't an issue just as long as the whole area is covered correctly. Which is why it's best to be done on the same day (if that make sense)

I have already asked this question over the phone but thought that others might be interested. Is it ok to put the Sikabond Wood Floor adhesive directly onto the (dried)Rapid DPM?

Asked by Russ Price from West Midlands on 17 Feb 2015

1 Answer

Good Afternoon Russ Thank you for posting this question even though you know the answer, to help others. The answer is yes both of our Sika adhesive can go directly over any liquid DPM system, provided the subfloor is dry, flat and even.

Is the 20m2 coverage for one or two coats on the Sikabond rapid DPM

Asked by Dave McCaughie on 12 Aug 2014

1 Answer

If you're using this product as a DMP then its a 2 coat system and yes. This product can also be used as a primer (covering approx 40m2 - 1 coat system) or an isolator (covering approx 30m2 also 1 thick coat).
