Questions & Answers

I installed this flooring in a kitchen around 5 years ago. Very happy with it, but the laquer has worn in a few high-traffic places. What is the best way to maintain this floor?

Hi Andrew, great question. We've got a guide to refinishing lacquered floors here:

Hello We are considering buying this for our living room and hallway on the first floor of a Victorian conversion (with floorboards underneath). But we have 2 very young children and hence a fair bit of spills. How good is this with spills of liquid and solid food? Also does it have grooves between 2 planks? The iron banks SPA seems very similar to this but is priced about £10/sqmt higher. What is the reason?

Asked by Pallavi on 26 Feb 2017

Hi Pallavi, This floor has a microbevelled edge, which means there is a very slight groove between the boards. This particular engineered floor has a Lacquer finish, which is slightly better at resisting spills and stains than an oiled floor. However, any spillages would need to be mopped up as quickly as possible. If you're after a more low-maintenance floor, we'd recommend a laminate or even an LVT floor, which are much better at dealing with liquids.

Dear Flooring Supplies, Ive read online that the best flooring for underfloor heating is one that up to 18mm thickness. Can you please confirm that the Ironbark Sands 20mm is still suitable for electric underfloor heating? Also my flat is on the first floor of a purpose built block with a concrete subfloor. I'm planning to lay the Natura Silver directly on the concrete, then to lay the insulation boards followed by the heating plates and then the flooring directly on top. would you say that this is the right order of layers? and will the Ironbark Sands is resilient enough to be placed directly on the heating plates? lastly, would you instead recommend a different underlay, different flooring or a different installation process as to get the most efficiency out of these electric underfloor heating. many thanks for your help

Good Morning Dotan The Ironbark Sand is compatible with both electric & water underfloor heating systems (UHS) for sure. There are some rules to follow which you can research here: However, it worth noting the thicker and heavier the layers going over the UHS the more it insulates so less efficient. In real terms you may have to turn up the thermostat 1 degree to feel the same benefits with the UHS as a 15mm wooden flooring. I would use the natura Bronze underlay which offers the best efficiency for the UHS but isn't as good for acoustic dampening. So you need to make a decision and balance out whats more important for you (and you neighbors) I really hope this helps but if you need more advice or just want to talk to us give us a call and we'll talk it through with you.
