Wooden pallets – a simple but effective solution for moving around big, heavy things. We use them to make sure our flooring gets to your home quickly and safely, so we simply couldn't be without them. However, once they've served their purpose, they can be fairly difficult to dispose of (unless you happen to be building a bonfire…) So we thought we'd give you a few ideas of how to create your own pallet furniture!

First, let's start with a simple one – something to stop your footwear clogging the hallway. Simply lean the pallet against the wall with the slats horizontal and hey presto, a shoe holder! Now just stick the toes of the shoes between the slats and they'll be held in place. Of course, for a bit more style, sand down the slats, paint them whatever colour you'd like and mount it on the wall!

There's another very simple solution – stack a few on top of each other, nail them together and cover the top with a sheet of glass and you've got a stylish little coffee table. Wheels can be added to the base to help move it, or felt pads can be used to protect your floor.

Depending on the style of pallet you find yourself with, it should only take a few minor adjustments to create a fantastic one-piece shelving unit. There's a few different styles on offer.

By nailing a few pallets together it's very easy to make rustic outdoor pallet furniture. You can make benches and sofas by nailing some together and covering with outdoor cushions – strong, light and weatherproof!

These are just some of the simpler options available to you, but really with these versatile structures the only limit is your imagination.

If you're planning on tearing your pallet apart, it's good to know the best way to dismantle it. Luckily, there's a great guide here:
