Description

Natura Silver offers good comfort and support and recovery whilst still remaining a good economic solution. A silver foil vapour barrier with a 200mm overlap acts as an excellent DPM (damp proof membrane) to protect your floor from moisture attached to a high-density foam core with high compressive strength. Good thermal insulation and sound impact reduction qualities, up to 18db. It can also be used downstairs and upstairs in the home, although we suggest considering a specific acoustic underlay if noise is an issue. This product also offers great thermal insulation properties making it ideal for underfloor heating systems.

Questions & Answers

What is the thermal insulation value for this product (ie: W/MK)? I plan to lay a floating wood floor using Natura Jatoba Limerick engineered wood over a concrete slab floor. I am looking for the best possible thermal insulation performance of the underlay. I am not worried about accoustic performance (as it is a ground floor). I can see your 'gold underlay' quotes a thermal value of 0.048 W/mk with a thickness of 5mm, and the chipboard underlay quotes 0.050 W/mk with a thickness of 5mm, (albeit the chipboard would require a separate DPM). Please advise how the silver underlay compares for this purpose in this proposed usage as the 3mm thickness is an advantage.

Asked by Peter Malinowski from Ross-on-Wye on 02 Apr 2019

1 Answer

Hi Peter We would recommend the silver underlay if you are installing the floor on the ground level. If you are looking for an underlay to use where the floor is uneven or if you are installing for use on an upper level we would recommend the gold underlay as it will help to reduce sound transference to the rooms below.

Is this product fire proof and how toxic is it??

Asked by jeannette droar from birmingham on 30 Jun 2017

1 Answer

Hi Jeannette, all the technical specifications we have for this underlay are listed in the technical datasheet, which can be found here: https://static.flooringsupplies.co.uk/downloads/Accessories/Underlays/TS005ComfortSilver31CSI.pdf

Could this product be laid directly onto the concrete floor and carpet underlay then carpet laid on top?

Asked by Eddie Carroll from Nr Ware on 31 Dec 2016

1 Answer

Hi Eddie, This underlay isn't suitable for carpets, so you'll be best just to stick to a specialist carpet underlay.

Do either the silver or bronze underlay have any floor levelling properties? It will be laid in part over concrete and part suspended timber floor with laminate floor on top.

Asked by Julie Carter-Owen from Hampshire on 20 May 2016

1 Answer

Hi Julie, Underlays aren't designed to 'level' the floor - although they do smooth over the surface. If you're laying over concrete you'll need to use Silver as it has a built in DPM.

What underlay do I need with Quickstep12mm laminate to provide good sound absorption and insulation for my ground floor living room

Asked by Ian Cooper from Scotland on 18 Mar 2016

1 Answer

Hi Ian, Your best bet would either be Quickstep Thermolevel: https://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/accessories/50/quickstep_thermolevel_underlay or Quickstep Unisound Combiflor: https://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/accessories/49/quickstep_unisound_combiflor_underlay Both have excellent insulation properties and are designed to work well with all Quickstep floors.

WE ARE ON THE 1ST.FLOOR DIRECTLY OVER THE GARAGE.IT IS A FLOATING CHIPBOARD FLOOR ON POLYSTYRENE---CARPETED WITH CHEAP CARPET. IT CREAKS WITH EVERY STEP---- WE WOULD LIKE A WOODEN FLOOR- SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.

Asked by ROBERT WHITWELL from IPSWICH on 14 Apr 2015

1 Answer

Good Morning Robert Its very difficult to give advice without seeing (or hearing) the issue you have with the noise but it does sound like the subfloor (chipboard & installation) is moving when weight is applied so making the noise. We sell may types of timber flooring at various thickness. The thicker the flooring the more structurally sound it is so less movement. I would (if budget allows) look at the Ironbark product portfolio and the Kahrs 20mm products which I have attached for you here: https://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/16mm-and-over-engineered-wood-flooring

would this material be suitable to go under a carpet in an area that requires additional insulation where we cannot access under the floor boards.

Asked by Louise Hill from Leeds on 10 Aug 2014

1 Answer

I'm sure it would be fine and do a job but for clarity you need to understand that this product isn't a carpet underlay. So in short I would suggest there maybe better products, which are 100% suitable, available. We don't offer carpet underlays I'm afraid.

To be laid over concreted underfloor heating and timber floating floor for the natura engineered wood? Ground floor

Asked by Ian Gilani on 11 Feb 2014

1 Answer

It is suitable yes but depending on you're needs I'm not sure if its the most suitable. All these underlays allow heating through but at different rages knows as the TOG rating. You should use a special under floor heating underlay with a low rating of 0.35 tog. Bronze - 0.55 TOG Silver - 0.58 TOG Gold - 1.06 TOG
