This product is 3mm thick foam and comes with a built in DPM (damp proof membrane) layer which is vital for any installation over concrete. Light and easy to handle and it cuts and fits with ease. Suitable for use with underfloor heating systems, this underlay has fair thermal insulation and sound impact reduction qualities. It can be used downstairs and upstairs in the home, although we suggest considering a specific acoustic underlay if noise is an issue.

Natura Bronze Underlay

This does roll up at the ends but is easily held down with the floor panels. It is very easy to cut and lay.

Worth upgrading.

Decided to upgrade from the standard product as I was laying flooring over an existing stone floor with a riven surface. I wanted an underlay that would even out the textured surface and provide a d.p.m as well. The material is quite robust and east to lay (unrolls easily and lays reasonably flat straight away). Doesn't tear when handling but can be cut with kitchen scissors quite easily. Didn't have any concerns about possibly standing on the material when laying the main laminate. There is a good overlap allowing continuity of the vapour barrier.

good undelay , does the job

upgraded to this underlay from the basic because it has a built in damp proof membrane. We were laying flooring over an existing vinyl tiled floor here the tiles were stuck directly to a concrete floor laid in a 1970;s extension. We seemed to be getting some condensation issues from the cold floor and were unable to establish the 1970's damp proof qualities. The Foam part of the underlay is the same as your basic stuff but this has a very thin polythene layer bonded to one side. Maybe a bit thinner that I had anticipated but should do the job. Went down easily and easy laying of laminate flooring over it.

Waste of money

I upgraded to this product on the advice of the salesperson at Flooring supplies when i purchased my wood flooring. My choice of flooring entitled me at the time to free underlay, however i was advised this product would suit me better. Unfortunately the man who laid my floors told me the product was no good , too thin, and we had to end up using my carpet underlay. I still have the unused underlay in my shed, so this proved a total waste of time.

Hi, We have a 17 ft extension on the back which is now the Kitchen, with a rough concrete floor but haven't laid the floor tiles yet. We wanted to prevent the cold coming up through the floor after its been tiled. Is this product suitable and can it be glued to the the concrete floor and then tiled over???

Asked by Simon Harrop from Brighton on 13 Nov 2017

1 Answer

Hi Simon, this underlay isn't suitable for concrete floors as it doesn't have a DPM layer, which prevents the damp that rises from concrete. The correct underlay will depend on which type of tile you're using (it might not even be suitable for an underlay) so it's best to check the recommended accessories once you've added the floor to your basket.

Hi, I'm planning on putting this under a Kronospan laminate floor in two upstairs rooms. What is the acoustic dampening rating, and will it work well with an 8mm laminate flooring?

Asked by Nicola Lugosch from Bishop's Stortford on 12 Jun 2017

1 Answer

Hi Nicola, whilst this floor will absorb some noise, it doesn't have an official rating. Instead, we'd recommend the upgrade to the Natura Silver, which absorbs up to 18Db of noise. Alternatively, feel free to look at our summary of acoustic insulation underlays:

Hi. I need to install a laminate floor on a Pipe Stapled and Manifold Underfloor heathing which is fixed to 100mm Reflective Insulation Boards then Screeded with a 3 parts washed sharp sand to 1 part Cement mixture with a "Pexatherm" heat transmission additive also added to the mixture. I don't want to decrease in any way the heating performances. Would this underlay make the job properly.
