Questions & Answers

Hi, I have just had an extension built. Half the room is wooden floorboards and the other half has underfloor heating screed. Can I use this to cover the whole lot or do I need to put a ply board down because of the floorboards?

Asked by Helen Goodenough from London on 08 Aug 2018

1 Answer

Hi Helen, this underlay will be fine for both areas of the flooring.

I want to use this over under floor heating which lots of your responses say it is good for but weirdly you said to Mike that it was great for insulation - obviously it can't be both! Can you let me know the tog rating for this underlay - most suppliers quote underlay in tog rating rather than W/k or anything else so that would make an easier comparison for me

Asked by Chris from Worcester on 06 Dec 2017

1 Answer

Hi Chris, all the information we can give you about this underlay can be found here (I'm afraid it doesn't include a tog rating) https://static.flooringsupplies.co.uk/downloads/New%20Downloads/Datasheets/TDS%20QS%20Silent%20Walk%20-%20EN.pdf

Can I use this with LVT?

Asked by Sara on 07 Nov 2017

1 Answer

Hi Sara, We would recommend one of our LVT-specific underlays, which can be found here: https://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/browse/1/12/b/product-type=accessories/floor-type=vinyl/accessory-type=underlay

Hi there, Is the underlay suitable for engineered wooden flooring? Many thanks

Asked by Darrell Bellinger from OXFORD on 07 Jul 2017

1 Answer

Hi Darrell, it certainly is, and it's the recommended underlay for all Quickstep engineered flooring.

Hi I am purchasing Quickstep Largo for installation into a suspended wooden floor without under floor heating. I would like an underlay that has good insulation from the cold area beneath the floor and provides reduced reflected walking noise. Is Silent Walk a good option, or is there a better one? Thanks Mike

Asked by Mike Watt on 27 Mar 2017

1 Answer

Hi Mike, this is a fantastic underlay for sound insulation, although you might also want to consider our Fibre Board underlay, which can offer even more heat insulation: https://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/accessories/854/fibre_board_underlay

I am buying quickstep Eligna laminate flooring to go over "wet" underfloor heating overlay boards, leveled with latex self leveling compound. What is the difference between the quickstep basic plus underlay and the quickstep silent walk underlay? Given the underfloor heating 30mm xps boards under the laminate floor, I am not worried about the noise but note that you recommend the silent walk underlay for underfloor heating, but I am not sure why? Thanks

Asked by P Singh on 14 Feb 2017

1 Answer

Hi, either underlay would be suitable for your installation, but the Quickstep Silent Walk has an overall better construction and is designed to allow more heat to pass through from underfloor heating.

I have underfloor heating foil mats (elektra woodtec) Is this underlay laid ontop of them or underneath?

Asked by jo piper on 25 Oct 2016

1 Answer

Hi Jo, This underlay goes over the top of your underfloor heating.

How soon can I lay laminate floor on the concrete base of my my conservatory and is silent walk underlay the best choice for this. The base has been down for 8 weeks.

Asked by Mr W Devine from Liverpool on 01 Aug 2016

1 Answer

It depends on the thickness of the concrete. 1mm takes roughly a day to dry out (or 1 inch a month) but this can be sped up with heaters or dehumidifiers. Silent Walk is a great underlay. For more information on underlays, see here: https://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk/advice/underlays.aspx

What is the sound reduction in decibels pm squared for the silent walk underlay. ground floor, so interested in the sound in the room itself (Is this called drumsound ?) thanks Lynn

Asked by Lynn Tytherleigh from NOTTINGHAM on 13 Apr 2016

1 Answer

How thick is the underlay?

Asked by Mark Grant from Dorking on 14 Feb 2016

1 Answer

Hi Mark, This underlay is 2.2mm thick

I have electric underfloor heating , then screed, would I then use the quickstep silent walk underlay, then have my engineered wood flooring laid on top?

Asked by Mr Payne from Bath on 27 Jan 2016

1 Answer

Yes, that's the correct way to use this product, Thanks

Hi there, can I put the Quickstep silent walk underlay on top of concrete floor? Then laminate straight on top (I'm correct in reading I don't need an additional damp proof membrane layer?) Thanks.

Asked by Mrs H Forster from Kitchen on 30 Dec 2015

1 Answer

Dear Mrs. Forster, You'll be pleased to know that you're absolutely correct on all accounts, that's the best way to do it!
