The selection of gradings range from Select grade which is clean hardwood through to Character grade with knots and variations in the grain giving a rustic appearance.

Select/Prime	Small variation	No	Uniform look with an over all hue that is even and knot-free with a largely straight grain pattern.
Natural/Medium	Some variation	Allowed on face	The wood's grain patterns are clearly visible small knots are allowed.
Character/Rustic	Full variation allowed	Yes & heartwood	Made from heartwood or sapwood, variable grain patterns. Unlimited colour variation and mineral streaks allowed. Large knots and knot holes are allowed within this grading
