Solid wood flooring has a range of benefits that make it a great investment that adds a classic elegance to your room. You might be wondering just how long solid hardwood flooring will last. Real wood flooring can last decades, and in some instances even out live the owner!

Other benefits include:

  • Versatile: The natural and neutral colours that real wood flooring is available in can match any style, from rustic to modern.
  • Hard-wearing: Solid wood is naturally durable and so can resist dents and scratches, so long as it is cared for properly
  • Low maintenance: Solid wood doesn't harbour dust and debris, so it doesn't need as much cleaning. Simply sweep or hoover regularly.
  • Adds value to the home: As solid wood flooring is durable and long-lasting, it can increase the value of your home and even help it to sell quicker.

What Rooms are Suitabe for Solid Wood Flooring?

Solid wood flooring is a high-quality, sturdy choice. It is a great flooring choice for rooms such as living spaces and stairs due to its strength.

However, real wood floors are prone to water damage and can not be used with underfloor heating. Therefore they are not suitable for bathrooms and kitchens as the humidity can cause warping, which will damage the wood. Any room that you want underfloor heating in won't be good for solid wood either, the temperature changes will also warp and damage the wood.

See our Room Suitability Guide for more information.

Types of Solid Wood Flooring

When choosing a solid wood floor, you may think that you are quite limited in choice of colour, but you couldn't be more wrong! Real wood flooring is available in different types, which come from different species of trees. These species have their own unique grain patterns, colours and tones. We stock three species of hardwood flooring which each give a different look:

  • Oak: Solid oak flooring features a distinctive straight and swirling grain against the honeyed tone. This species of solid wood flooring gives a classic and versatile look.
  • Beech: Solid beech flooring is known for its warm tones. This species creates a cosy space when used for flooring.
  • Maple: Maple flooring is a lighter, airier wood species, that often comes with a reddish tint. The low-key grains make a more uniform floor than other species of wood.

Choosing Solid Wood Flooirng

Solid wood flooring is a long-term investment, and as long as you care for it properly, can last decades. Available in neutral, versatile colours, this type of floor can suit any décor. This hardweaing and durable flooring is suitable for rooms with heavy footfall, though because it is susceptible to water damage, you shouldn't lay it in rooms with high humidity. So as long as you are not looking for a floor for a bathroom or kitchen (or a room with underfloor heating), solid wood floors are a great choice.
