What is engineered hardwood flooring?

It consists of layered tiers of real hardwood pressed together. The real wood surface veneer layer is available in many different designs and finishes, and is also available in various thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm up to 6mm. A typical veneer is 3.6mm and can be sanded four or five times.

During the manufacturing process, the layers of real timber run in different directions. This means engineered hardwood flooring is more dimensionally stable than solid wood flooring, but identical to solid wooden flooring in appearance. It’s perfect for areas of the house where solid wood flooring may not be suitable, such as basements, conservatories or over and underfloor heating. It’s also typically easier to install for DIY customers and offers a wider range of styles to choose from.
